Turning the stock index into digital art

Background and Challenges: 

To reposition HSBC’s new Wealth Centre as a modern destination for high-net-worth clients, the challenge was overcoming traditional banking perceptions. High-net-worth individuals are deeply drawn to culture, innovation, and art. The goal was to connect these passions with finance, transforming real-time market movements into a captivating cultural experience.

Idea and Execution:

Introduction of "FINART"—blending art, big data, and technology. Through close collaboration with digital artists, a living landscape painting was crafted, inspired by historical bank notes and Hong Kong's peaks. A unique algorithm ties real-time Hang Seng Index (the Hong Kong stock market index) data directly to the installation, causing mountain peaks to swell and evolve with market volatility every ten seconds.

Result:

The project received extensive regional media coverage across Asia-Pacific and multiple international awards, inspiring plans to fit future wealth centres with Art-Tech experiences.
